Story
16 Horsepower
Originally from the USA, 16 Horsepower is one of the most influential bands of Alternative Country. Consisting of Jean-Yves Tolà (ex-Passion Fodder/Lilium), Pascal Humbert (Passion Fodder/Lilium/Détroit) and David Eugene Edwards, who also wrote most of the songs for the band and is also a continuing member of Glitterhouse Records as part of the Wovenhand project, they recorded two studio albums for A&M Records in the 90s that were celebrated by fans and press alike. In 2000, the band moved to Glitterhouse Records to release their landmark Secret South. The tour for the album became a real triumph. As a result, a live album was released under the title Live, March 2001. Anyone who has ever seen the band live knows the magic they developed. 16 Horsepower were not just any band. Three years after the release of Secret South, they recorded probably their darkest and most folk-influenced chapter: Folklore is perceived as the band’s most intense and best album, evoking associations of “banjo and campfire, melancholy and Marlboro country” in listeners. It was also the last studio record of their career, as 16 Horsepower announced their breakup in 2005. Subsequent albums include unique live recordings and previously unreleased material released exclusively by Glitterhouse Records.
