Story

Rodrigo Leão and Scott Matthew first met during the recording of A Montanha Mágica (The Magic Mountain), Leão’s 2011 album. Matthew lent his own unique touch to the song “Terrible Dawn,” and so he subsequently accompanied the Portuguese on some of his concerts in Portugal and Spain. Leão, who has always been an avid musician, has collaborated with greats such as Beth Gibbons of Portishead or Brazilian singer Adriana Calcanhoto, among others, but “Terrible Dawn” as well as “Incomplete” from 2013 show that a very special connection exists between these two artists.

A Portuguese composer and a singer from Australia living in New York. Long distances, yet so close. An inventor of intangible melodies and a, in his own words, “quiet noise maker“. Actually, it is impossible to resist such an exotic duo. Scott and Rodrigo worked together in silence, both with busy schedules: Leão, once founder of the Protuguese legend Madredeus,as a composer for film soundtracks to sophisticated box office hits such as The Butler or La Cage Dorée, among others, and Matthew, who pursues his own successful solo career, which now includes 5 albums and various contributions to soundtracks of films such as Shortbus (John Cameron Mitchell), among others. Nevertheless, they managed to develop and exchange melodies, lyrics and ideas. They kept meeting, sending each other demo recordings that culminated in a joint album recorded with a large cast in Lisbon in the spring of 2016: Rodrigo shows up responsible for the compositions and production, Scott for the lyrics, melodies and vocals. Anyone who has experienced these two musicians together on stage knows how beautiful this collaboration can sound.
