Exactly ten years later, in 2006, the English musician <strong>Cypress Grove<\/strong>, who had a friendship and close artistic collaboration with <strong>Jeffrey Lee Pierce<\/strong>, got hold of old recordings they had made together; this gave rise to the idea of <strong>The<\/strong> <strong>Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>Within the series <strong>Cypress Grove<\/strong> and several other collaborating artists honor <strong>Jeffrey Lee Pierce<\/strong> as one of the most influential, yet mostly underrated US Singer-Songwriter and set themselves the task of transporting his art into the present day. The conceptual idea is to have companions and admirers reinterpret songs by Lee Pierce, who only turned 40 years old, to set snippets of lyrics to music anew, to use the invitation to experiment, to breathe life into previously unused material&#8230; The unusually prominent selection of artists who pay tribute here suggests the great relevance of the artist, whose songs themselves, in their compositional and lyrical quality, form the basis for particularly striking and unusual cover versions.
