Glitterhouse Records is more than happy to present the fourth song out of The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project ‘The Task Has Overwhelmed Us‘ today, before the full album drops on September 29.
Following 2009’s ‘We Are Only Riders’, 2012’s ‘The Journey Is Long’ and 2014’s ‘Axels and Sockets’, ‘The Task Has Overwhelmed Us‘ presents interpretations of tracks from Pierce’s Gun Club and solo canons along with fresh works constructed from rehearsal skeletons, previously unheard lyrics and songs only performed live. The stellar roll-call of contributors features artists such as Dave Gahan, The Coathangers, Nick Cave & Debbie Harry, Suzie Stapleton, Cypress Grove and even Jeffrey Lee Pierce himself among others. Today we have the honour to share Mark Stewart‘s very own interpretation of ‘Vodou‘ with you. The Bristol-born singer formed The Pop Group in 1977 and is celebrated for his dizzying and politicised blend of post-punk, dub and funk.
The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project ‘The Task Has Overwhelmed Us‘ will be released Sep 29 via Glitterhouse Records on 2-LP, lim. 2-LP, CD and digital via Glitterhouse Records.
