Story
With “Silver Sash” appeared on 04 February 2022, as the long-awaited follow-up to the epochal “Star Treatment” on Glitterhouse Records. Never before have Wovenhand taken so much time for the production of an album.
„Silver Sash is a totally unique record for Wovenhand. All done at home, lots of electronics, mixed during a pandemic, backs to the wall. It’s another feather in the wild hat that is the Wovenhand catalog.“ – Chuck French
Silver Sash is the first musical sign of life from David Eugene Edwards since the fan and critically acclaimed Star Treament (2016). The new album was co-written with Chuck French, who may be known to many as the guitarist of emocore band Planes Mistaken For Stars. Both have known each other for ages, now they finally found the time to compose this epochal album: “The music was recorded in my house in Denver with the help of our dear friend Jason Begin. David recorded his vocals at his house (which also happens to be 3 blocks away). I had a bunch of music in various states of existence, of various ages, languishing in my computer. I made a playlist for David and we just started to devour them bit by bit. Some were scrapped, but most were utilized” says French about the recordings. The process of creating Silver Sash took more than four years in total. Longer than for any Wovenhand album before.
Silver Sash opens with a powerful beat called Temple Timber. Followed by the driving Acacia, which French describes as “galloping across the dry grass fields on a horse into the white bark forest.” Song #3 Duat Hawk is the mystical counterpart, focusing entirely on Edwards’ mesmerizing voice. Dead Dead Beat, on the other hand, is captivating with its galloping drums and heavy guitar sounds. A whole nine songs were recorded, which despite their heaviness have lost none of their magic, as the title track impressively demonstrates, skillfully bridging the gap between the quiet, mystical and the loud, yet magical side of Wovenhand.
The soul, face and head of Wovenhand is David Eugene Edwards, one of the most impressive guitarist/singers, songwriters and lyricists of our time, who has influenced countless musicians and artists over the past two decades through his work in Wovenhand and 16 Horsepower. There are no normal words to describe this band. Their sound is an organic spider web of neo-folk, post-punk, alt-country and alternative rock. Sometimes sad and introverted, sometimes angry and of incredible force, Wovenhand is always an unforgettable experience. We are very excited to release the new album Silver Sash on February 4, 2022 on Glitterhouse Records.
